Location, Location, Location…But According to Who?

If you’ve ever dipped even a toe into real estate, you’ve heard it—probably more times than you can count:
“Location! Location! Location!”
It’s said with such authority, you’d think there’s a secret map somewhere… a glowing X that marks the perfect spot to live. But here’s the truth I’ve learned after years of helping people land right where they belong here in Stillwater:
Location isn’t universal. It’s personal.
A Little Story From the Field
Not long ago, I was working with two buyers at the exact same time.
Buyer #1 wanted new construction just outside of town. Just a little breathing room but new construction was a must.
Buyer #2? Total opposite.
He wanted an established neighborhood, older home minutes from Oklahoma State University. Walkability and a shady backyard was key. Game days, local eats, close to campus—that was his version of perfect.
Now here’s the funny part…
If I had shown Buyer #1 a charming mid-century near home campus, she would’ve politely smiled but be thrilled with the option.
And if I took Buyer #2 out to a new development with no landscaping, he would’ve wondered if I had listened to him at all!
Same town. Same day. Both great options but completely different “perfect locations.”
So What Does “Location” Mean in Stillwater?
Here’s the beauty of living in Stillwater—you get options. Real, meaningful options.
Wide Open Spaces - Dreaming of acreage, a shop, or just a little peace and quiet? Step outside town or in the surrounding areas and you’ll find it.
Campus & School Convenience - Want to stay close to Oklahoma State University or within reach of Stillwater schools? There are neighborhoods that make mornings (and game days) a whole lot easier.
Established neighborhoods - Prefer a most established neighborhood with trees and landscaping already in place? Stillwater has a variety.
New Construction & Growing Areas - Love that fresh paint smell and modern layout? Developing areas around town are full of opportunity—and a chance to grow with the community.
The Truth Behind the Catchphrase
“Location” isn’t about what I think is best.
It’s not about what your neighbor, your cousin, or even that one friend who watches way too much HGTV thinks either.
It’s about how you live your life.
Do you want quiet mornings or lively evenings?
A short commute or a little more space?
Walkability or wide-open skies?
That’s the real conversation.
Around here, I like to say:
“The right location doesn’t show up on a map—it shows up in how a place feels when you pull into the driveway.”
And one of the best things about Stillwater? There truly is something for everyone.
